Happy Saturday!! I can’t believe we’re almost half way through August already, and I’m up to my 6th Weekend Guest today. I hope you’ve been enjoying this series so far. I’m honored to introduce you to Miriam this week. She’s an amazing card maker and paper crafter. And I love her stamp designs for Neat & Tangled. I was thrilled she wanted to be my Weekend Guest.
My name is Miriam Prantner. I live in Arlington, Virginia with my husband Andrew and daughters Ellie and Carina. I have scrapbooked since high school, but started to take it more seriously after attending a Creative Memories party after college. I few years ago I discovered acrylic stamps which opened up a whole other world of crafty possibilities. I started making cards, enjoying the smaller size as a way to try new things and stretch myself. In 2013 I began designing stamps and die for Neat & Tangled Stamps. I’m currently on the My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration Team and I manage the Neat & Tangled Design Team.

Where do you find inspiration? | This depends on what I’m creating. When I scrapbook I take my inspiration/cues from the photographs. Generally from the colors in the photos or the theme of the layout. When I create cards or other projects I’m most often inspired by a product whether it’s a stamp, a stencil, an embellishment. I think this has to do with how I view scrapbooking. I see it as something more purposeful, it’s about documenting something, so the photos take center stage. On the other hand, when I’m making a card or other item, it’s more fun. I love to experiment and try new things/products. I enjoy dabbling in mixed media or using items I might not pair with photos because I try to stick with archival products when I scrapbook.
Where do you create? | My stated craft area is in our sunroom, but I craft all over the house, as long as there is a television nearby ;). Truthfully it’s mostly in the sunroom or downstairs in the family room. In the evening I’ll bring my projects downstairs and work on them while my husband and I watch a game or catch up on the DVR. I don’t like sitting still, so this gives me something to do with my hands while I watch TV.
Do you scrapbook on vacation? | No I don’t, it’s just too much to think about bringing. I will collect ephemera, and I keep a journal/log of what happens each day to use when I do scrap my photos later on, but I don’t scrapbook on vacation. I do like to bring something to do though, and that’s most often crocheting or my stamp carving supplies because they are small and compact (you do have to check that thought since sharp tools are involved).
Projects:
I interview my daughter each year on the first day of school and the last day of school. It’s so fun to see what she says at the beginning of the year and the end of the year as well as to compare years (I don’t aways use the same questions, and I tend to write them out at the beginning of the year and kind of wing it on the last day of school). As I’m perpetually behind I thought I should do up the layout for last year so that I’m only a year behind.
These are some of my favorite layouts to do because I don’t have to think about the journaling since the questions are the journaling.
I wanted to create a card too. I used some of the leftover scraps from the layout and pulled a couple additional pieces of ephemera from the embellishment pack that I used for the layout (Crate – Maggie Holmes Confetti Ephemera) as the jumping off point.
I created a modified grid, tying in my Hoop Die from Neat & Tangled as well as some sequins and splatter. To add a bit of additional texture, I modified the flower from the ephemera pack, adding some sparkle paper behind the flower centers and glossy accents and a touch of glitter to the large flower center.
