The Weekend Guest | Joy Taylor

The Weekend Guest

Welcome to a new Weekend Guest post! I’m so honored to be able to present Joy Taylor to you today. Joy was one of the first cardmakers I got to know when I first started making cards a few years ago. Her style was very intriguing to me back then, and has been an inspiration on many occasions since. We have shared a couple of design teams over the past few years, and has her way of making products shine on her projects. She brought a fabulous card to share with you today.

Joy Headshot

Hello, I am Joy and it is such a pleasure to be here for a Summer weekend posting for Els…now a little bit about myself..well I live with a great guy in a small cottage in a small town in country New South Wales, Australia, we both work, for me working part time allows me to craft in the time I have spare, I have my own space to come and go as I please and a room fitted out to suit my needs. My passion for paper crafting started over 20 years ago now and more recently over 3 years ago when starting my blog, well the world completely opened up in the crafting industry, being on many wonderful teams, guesting, online classes and the best thing of all, meeting some amazing, beautiful and talented women in the industry, who most are close friends..I am grateful and thankful for this industry!

SCRAPBOOKING IN AUSTRALIA | Being in a small country town there is not a lot that is accessible, so for me I tend to do a lot of online shopping, I tend to like to support many stores here in Australia that are online and also purchase quite a bit that I may not find here in Australia in the US and UK, I think it is important to support what feels at times a fragile industry due to our economic lows and highs..

WHERE I FIND INSPIRATION | Oh boy the internet, my oyster, so many blogs inspire me, Pinterest inspires me, sometimes even flicking through home magazines with lots of colour seem to inspire me, not always but at times products itself seem to just turn on a spark in my inspiration..

WHERE I CREATE | I am truly blessed to have an amazing room, just off our lounge room that Darryl my partner fitted out with furniture custom made to suit my needs, I will say though, I am in the process of changing things around and have had quite a lot of rolled eyes from him LOL…there is lots of white, with a large table I sit at to craft, a storage unit that sits on my table that has everything at hand that I need to create, paper rack, benches with loads of storage areas underneath and an island that I can move around…for now it works, I am hoping to share more later in the year on how my room looks now..

SCRAPBOOKING ON VACATION | Well not something I tend to do, unless I am away at a crafty retreat and then well practically my whole room comes with me 🙂 I suppose the most thing I like to do is take photos to possibly use later on when pocket scrapping..

So today, I wanted to create a layered, feminine card, using soft colours of water colour back ground using distress ink and adding splatters of bold pink with gold…

The Weekend Guest | Joy Taylor I adore butterflies on cards and having older product always in my craft stash, I feel it is important to not always show the public what you can create with the new, but also with the old, so I pulled out Pink Paislee butterflies that have the resist on them when you apply ink, which I added a soft pink.

The Weekend Guest | Joy Taylor Wood veneer is something I always gravitate to and having some beautiful assortment from older Gossamer Blue Kits, I chose to pull out a photo frame, applying white paint to tone down the wood effect..

The layering begins for me by adding the base colour, which of course was the painting, I added softness by adhering a ripped piece of tissue paper, adding the frame and some sewing thread behind the butterfly..

Finishing off by adding more gold with a Studio Calico, gold glitter die cut banner and gold hearts enamel dots…
