The Weekend Guest 2015

My Weekend Guest for this week is again a very talented lady. Carson’s crafting style has always caught my eye for some reason. It’s colorful and vibrant, yet elegant and simple. And when she started traditional scrapbooking just a few months ago – she shares beautiful sneaks on her Instagramfeed – I got totally sold. So I asked her as a guest, and I’m totally honored to have her on my blog this weekend.

Carson Riutta and SonHello crafty friends!  My name is Carson and I’m a recent transplant to North Carolina.  As I’ve been adjusting to the hot weather and fabulous southern cuisine, I’ve been crafting my little heart out and I’m so happy to be here sharing my latest project with you today.  You can find me and my work mostly over on Instagram.  I’m slightly addicted and if you are too, I would love to connect with you there.

I’m also currently teaching a class over at Big Picture Classes called “Make It Yours: Journal Cards” where I take you through four lessons, including video tutorials, for making your own Project Life cards from scratch.  If you are new to the site or not a member yet, you can take advantage of a free two week trial upon registration.  I highly recommend the site and the class and I hope to see you there.  Otherwise, you can find me at my blog, Pineandplum.com.

Where do you find inspiration? | Instagram is my number one place for all kinds of inspiration.  I’m constantly looking at images throughout the day, which makes it easy to sit down and feel inspired during my nightly crafting sessions.  On days when Instagram falls flat for me, I usually visit the Studio Calico Member Gallery or head to my Bloglovin’ feed to see what my favorite crafty ladies are up to.

Where do you create? | My husband and I share the formal dining room space for an office.  It’s in the front of the house and has a lovely picture window that allows for amazing afternoon and evening light.  I have an Ikea desk that attaches to a 2×4 Expedit.  The Expedit is perfect for keeping my supplies in view and within reach.  Next to my desk, I have a Magiker sideboard which houses the bulk of my supplies and next to that is my fabulous rolling cart from World Market that contains all my embellishments, dies and pens.  I love my space and just wish that I could have it all to myself, lol!

Do you scrapbook on vacation? | I do not scrapbook on vacation.  It’s enough for me to get the trip booked, get the family packed and make it there on time.  Packing supplies to take with me, would in all honesty, make my head explode.  I do however bring my big camera with us on trips and take lots and lots of pictures for all the papercrafting to come.

July Project Life Full Spread Carson  RiuttaI thought I would share my latest Project Life spread with you today.  This is probably the first time I’ve ever created a spread within a month of the actual date I was documenting.  It felt great to be able to use my fresh summer supplies with my summer photos and still have the stories right there in the front of my mind.  Being caught up really is a beautiful thing!

I challenged myself to create this spread with my Studio Calico “Pop Art” Scrapbooking kit, which meant that I wouldn’t be using any pre-made project life cards, but instead I created my own with all the lovely patterned papers and embellishments that came in the kit.  I tried very hard to stick to using just my months’ supplies, but I failed and did end up grabbing a few more bits and pieces from my stash such as the large labels for journaling and the bronzed letters for the title, to name a few.

My favorite thing to do these days is to use my 4×4 pictures in my 4×6 pockets which allows me to use an assortment of different page protectors and have fun creating  little 2×4 strips.  I am also completely addicted to those large labels which I downloaded as a freebie and re-colored to match my supplies.   They are the perfect amount of space for journaling and are easy to run through my typewriter.
