Happy Saturday!! Welcome back for another Weekend Guest post. This time I invited the talented Ashley Horton to join me. Ashley is part of different design teams, always inspiring with her bright and bold style. And I’m personally a big fan of her Etsy shop The Cut Shoppe too, her cut files are so vibrant and fun. Please give her a warm welcome.
Hi! I’m Ashley Horton and I live in the Southern US with my husband Tyler and our three children. I discovered scrapbooking, when our first daughter was born over nine years ago. And since then, I’ve loved every minute of it! I’ve really enjoyed documenting photos of all three kids, special occasions, trips and everyday moments. I am currently designing for American Crafts, Simple Stories, The Cut Shoppe, Hip Kit Club, A Flair for Buttons and Illustrated Faith. Some of my favorite products would have to be patterned paper, my Silhouette Cameo, wood veneers and Flair Buttons! Obviously scrapbooking is my main hobby, but I also enjoy reading and cooking.
Where do you find inspiration? | Inspiration can really be found anywhere. I think Pinterest is a great source of inspiration, but there are lots of other places to look too. I like to check out clothing when I’m out and about, for patterns and color schemes. Magazines, ads and graphics also offer a wide range of inspiration.
Where do you create? | My craft area is a part of the master bedroom. I have a craft table that holds my Cameo, sewing machine and Big Shot. Two large shelves are at the ends of the table, and they are great for my albums and storing all of my products. I also have a shelf above my craft desk, where I keep all of my Spray Mists and small bowls that hold embellishments.
Do you scrapbook on vacation? | I don’t scrapbook on vacation, because I feel like that’s time for us to get away and focus on doing things as a family. If I have ideas for a layout, I add it to Evernote or grab a piece of paper to draw out a sketch. That way, I can refer back to those ideas, once we’re home from vacation and I’m ready to start documenting all of our travel photos!
I love creating layers and using die cuts on my layouts. I started this layout, with a large heart die cut, from my Etsy Shop. Once the All Heart file finished cutting, I removed the 12×12 paper from my cutting mat and left the positive shaped hearts on the mat. Then I layered the negative 12×12 piece over my background paper and then removed each heart from the mat, placing it in it’s coordinating spot.
For some added texture, I machine stitched down each row of hearts. Next I layered the Cork Numbers from Crate Paper over the hearts and placed my photo on the right hand side of the numbers.
I used a mix of Thickers and fussy cut letters to create a long title on my layout. I finished the page, with stickers, chipboard and bits from the Crate Paper Wonder collection.
Thank you very much, Ashley, for being my guest here today!! It was great having you here!
And thank you for stopping by again today!! Be sure to stop by Ashley’s pages and leave her some love! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Els.
