Hello May! May … always makes me feel as if summer and vacation are just around the corner. May 1st is a holiday here in Belgium, and the kids have tomorrow off as well. So today was very relaxed and easy. With the beginning of each new month, there’s also a new challenge over on the Studio Tekturek blog. We’re working with a fun sketch again this month made by Binka.
I pretty much followed the sketch as presented – I loved it a lot and so decided to go with that flow. I had this fun picture from when I was out with my husband a week or two ago (you might have seen it on my Instagram feed back then), which made me decide on a black and white combo, with just a small pop of color.
I made two large banners, one with patterned paper from Studio Tekturek’s Peachy Christmas collection, one with plain white cardstock. Since the background paper is soft grey, the white stands out well enough against it. I sew both banners onto the background and added a bunch of black splatters.
I had a vision of black and white, and a pop of red before starting this layout. My first intention was to add a single red heart to the page, but then I came across this fabulous vellum flower from Maggie Holmes’ Styleboard collection for Crate Paper. I did however back it up with some white cardstock because the black from the picture and the stripes from the patterned paper were taking away too much of the pop.
